Mud Plastering

Mud Plastering

Mud Plastering is an eco-friendly wall finishing technique that uses a blend of clay, sand, straw, and sometimes natural fibers or lime. It has been used for centuries to create healthy, breathable, and aesthetically pleasing interiors and exteriors. Unlike cement-based plasters, mud plaster allows walls to “breathe,” regulating moisture and temperature naturally.

How it Works:

  • A mixture of local clay, fine sand, straw, and water is prepared.

  • The plaster is applied in thin layers over mud, brick, or stone walls.

  • Once dried, it forms a smooth, warm-textured surface that can be left natural or finished with lime/earth pigments for added durability.

Best Suited For:

  1. Eco-friendly homes
  2. Resorts, farmhouses, and retreat spaces
  3. Community centers and schools in rural or semi-urban areas
  4. Long-lasting and low-maintenance buildings
