Wattle & Daub

Rammed Earth Construction

Wattle & Daub is a traditional building technique that combines a wooden framework (the wattle) with an earthen plaster coating (the daub). This method has been used for thousands of years across cultures worldwide, offering a lightweight, natural, and sustainable solution for wall construction.

How it Works:

  • Thin wooden sticks or bamboo are woven together to create a strong lattice framework (wattle).

  • A mixture of clay, sand, straw, and sometimes lime is applied onto the framework (daub).

  • The result is a wall that is flexible, breathable, and naturally beautiful.

Best Suited For:

  • Eco-homes, cottages, and farmhouses

  • Resorts and rural retreats

  • Heritage restoration projects
